Components of a Lesson Plan

Disclaimer: Planning is not just for the teachers out there. 

Think about how often you plan in life..
- you plan when you make a budget
- you plan when you need to accomplish homework
- you plan when you need to organize or delegate work
- you plan so you can be efficient with your time

Since we are in #AEE100, our planning conversation was focused primarily on planning lessons for the classroom. For those of you in the teacher certification path (and those of you not) remember that preparation is 3/4 of the battle. 

When we're talking in the context of a LESSON PLAN it's important to remember that lesson plans are the instructor’s road map of what students need to learn and how it will be done effectively during the class time.

Ask yourself these three questions when you are working through the lesson planning process...

• You can find good examples of lesson plans on NAAE Communities of Practice; some that might be just what you are looking for, depending on your lesson

How much work needs to be put into each lesson?

• You need be able to use the plan to successfully implement the lesson.

Does micro-teaching work for ag. literacy?

• Yes, I believe this can count. Let's talk more.

How long are lesson plans?

• This really depends on the type of lesson, as well as the length of the class session.

Who will I teach my lesson to?

• You can get some ideas by looking at the assignment handbook, but we are open to many different options.

What can my lesson plan be on?

• We are open to a lot of ideas, as long as it revolves around agriculture/agricultural literacy.

How do we match up our lessons with state standards?

• This is discussed/taught in AEE 412.

Can I include my game into my ag. literacy lesson?

• Absolutely!

• It is a very important piece of the class. You must do going planning or the rest of the lesson will not come together.

Can you use someone else's lesson plan and add/subtract from it?

• Yes, don't reinvent the wheel, just be sure to give credit to whom it is due.

Ag standards for PA?

• There are no official Ag. Standards for PA, but you can find the suggested standards/benchmarks at http://www.education.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt/community/teacher_resources/7392/agricultural_education/507869 under the "Vision for Ag. Ed." book. They are at the end of the handbook.
